Diana Krall - All for You

Diana Krall - All for You
Vocal/Jazz | 1 CD | FLAC, Nero converted, none LOG, none CUE | 267 MB - MP3 | 320 Kbs | 135 MB
Publisher: Impulse (Verve Music)| 2005 | RapidShare

All for You is a tribute to the Nat "King" Cole Trio of the 1940s, when Cole performed as both a singer and a pianist. Krall, like her heroes Lena Horne and Carmen McRae, is also a singer-pianist, and she plays both roles on most of the songs here. She's able to link her singing to her piano playing in sympathetic ways and projects tremendous feeling through both. Like Cole in the '40s, Krall plays with a drummerless trio--here with guitarist Russell Malone and bassist Paul Keller. Their sense of intimate rapport is especially valuable on ballads such as "You Call It Madness" and "I'm Thru with Love," but also allows such uptempo tunes as "Hit That Jive Jack" to swing with surprising lightness.

Katie Melua - Pictures

Katie Melua - Pictures
Smooth Jazz | 1 CD | FLAC, none LOG, none CUE | 255 MB - MP3 | 320 Kbs | 87 MB
Publisher: Dramatico | 2007 | RapidShare

Those who were irked last time around by Katie Melua’s unsubstantiated claims that there are, and I quote, "nine million bicycles in Beijing" and that indeed "that’s a fact, it’s a thing we can’t deny"--when at best it can be no more than an exaggerated guesstimate and at worst just plain made up--will be pleased to learn that there are no comparable aspersions on new album Pictures. There may still be instances when things just don’t seem to make much sense at all, and metaphors can tire in her company, though set alongside a trademark melting lullaby such moments don’t really tend to linger. Pictures is an album that, while essentially doing only what it should and little more, also begins to signal that her potential could yet be realised. Where she has always had the silk-lined voice of a fairy admiring her beauty in a dew-drop, and her albums of modern mainstream jazz have become naturally affiliated with bubble baths by candlelight, or large glasses of red wine sipped slowly, or both, this is where she starts exhibiting signs of maturity. On "What I Miss About You", "Spellbound" and "Perfect Circle" she sounds older, more contemplative, almost commanding, and genuinely soulful. Rising above the generic parapet she makes small steps towards an identity of her own. Perhaps more than just a pretty voice after all.

The imaginary walks Piazzolla makes through the streets of these two metropoles tell the story of the immigrant who, inwardly torn, has learned to survive in two worlds: one in which he tries to find a new home, and one that only lives in his memory and wistfulness. Piazzolla was a great admirer of composer Leonard Bernstein. No wonder, then, that he was present at the premiere of the musical 'West Side Story' in New York. Inspired by the meeting of these two composers, Kraayenhof decided to adapt several pieces from the musical for Sexteto Canyengue by translating them into their specific tango idiom, among them were 'Prologue', 'Maria','A Boy Like That', 'The Rumble'. Led by bandoneón maestro Carel Kraayenhof, the Dutch based sextet, present an engaging repertoire of new arrangements of well-known tango classics, and some fine new compositions.

Ahma (Maria Kalaniemi)

Ahma (Maria Kalaniemi)
Jazz/Instrumental | 1 CD | FLAC, none LOG, none CUE | 311 MB - MP3 | 100 MB
Publisher: Intuition | RapidShare

The accordion has never sounded as good as it does beneath Maria's expert cuticles, helped on by all the top players from the Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department, which comprises the band Aldargaz. Sibelius? That's in Helsinki, Finland, mate.

The playing is inspired, and more akin to jazz than any World Music mask you make it wear. Instrumental on the whole, there are times when a da dada voice comes in to make itself a part of the orchestration, as in the jig-like 'Melos', king of the bar room set. Jovial, social, a real swing at the fences.

A far cry from the one that follows it, a moody 'Lovina' that seems to sweep the Finnish countryside, using the soft violin as a divining rod for locating old ghosts, while the accordion which brushes the main tune on in gentle dabs stays well out in front, never afraid, only yearning.

Ahma is said to combine Finnish folk, jazz improv and Argentinean tango into Maria's 3rd solo release, and the first cd for the great NorthSide label. Oh yes, the melodies are superb, almost multi-layered, needing more than one listen to hear everything going on behind the ears. 'Namas' itself takes traditional music further than the typical ballad, melting lush components together for a rich landscape of sounds that are of their own time. Not now. Not then. They are of a different definition of classical (music), a beauty to behold. Timo Alakotila's piano and Olli Varis' acoustic guitar are only several compartments into which your thinking mind will fall and try to fathom its way out.

They call her Queen of 5-Row Accordion. Maria's talent is obvious, but the mark of a Good queen is to surround herself with the best musicians the world has to offer. Already a good one, this would then have to make her Great.

Galeazzi, indeed, has one of those voices that instantly grabs the listener - rich, intense and filled with emotion, but never straying from a breathtaking precision that shines of musicality. And like all great musicians, she employs her talents with the utmost versatility. Passion and defiance seep through every note of songs like ‘Voglio Una Casa’, whilst sensitivity and tenderness characterise ‘Per Vita Bella’. The most impressive tune of the collection is the short but absorbing ‘Stornelli A Saltrarello’. Accompanied only by steady clapping, Galeazzi’s expressive vocals glide with ease through the rhythmical mesh of this beautiful traditional melody. The rapid blast of notes at the end has to be heard to be believed...

Viktoria Tolstoy, great-granddaughter of famous Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, is one of the most successful female Scandinavian singers.

The songs here are mainly based on classical music, though two traditional folk songs were added into the mix, and Tolstoy and producer Nils Landgren looked through the annals of Russian pop for inspiration.

"A spectacular success. Only those possessing a heart stonier than the Great Wall of China will fail to be moved. Tolstoy's most personal and ambitious work to date." -- Jazzwise
